My Dogs ♥ All Seniors (RIP) – 1997 to 2022
A few of my childhood animals.
My Dogs ♥ All Seniors (RIP) – 1997 to 2022
Sweetie Pi (π)
Oct 25, 1997 – Found wandering across MacArthur Blvd; returned to her mom in Rockridge.
Adopted March 17, 1998 – her mom gave her to me.
Died on her own Nov 16, 2002, in my bed in my arms 3 weeks after a splenectomy.
Nova
Adopted February 13, 2003 from Berkeley Humane Society
aged 5-7 yrs (born ~1996-1998)
Died April 18, 2012, euthanized in the back of my car in the parking lot of Creature Comfort Vet in Oakland, one of my hardest decisions like with George and Marmaduke. It’s heart breaking and so very confusing when there is still some life force left but the quality of life is horrible.
The longest dog relationship of my adult life – 9 yrs, 2 mos, 5 days
Rosie
Adopted March 20, 2004 from a flier at PetVet on Broadway in Oakland.
aged 7, born 1997
Died May 8, 2009, found dead on the front porch in the morning after the discovery of nodes on her lungs a few months earlier.
Jake (not a picture of Jake but he looked like this)
Adopted January 4, 2009 with his sister Terra (below) when his dad, my friend Jim, was found dead.
Died Sept 14, 2009, euthanized at VCA Bay Area on Telegraph Ave, Oakland, after he was found fully conscious, happy and still-all-there but unable to move laying in a mud puddle under the back porch.
15 yrs old
Terra
Adopted January 4, 2009 with her brother Jake (above), when her dad, my friend Jim, was found dead.
Died March 13, 2016 in my arms in her bed at 830pm after months of decline and tender care.
George
Adopted from Muttville June 1, 2013, ~ 9 yrs
Many road trips to Fort Bragg, CA
Died August 6, 2019, euthanized at Creature Comfort Holistic Vet, Oakland, after a long bout of dementia, the beginning of full body seizures likely from a brain tumor, and, I suspect, broken-heartedness after Emma’s death 7 weeks earlier. (His death one of my hardest decisions like with Nova and Marmaduke. I was a blubbering mess at the vets, not knowing what to do. Mondia, a tech, said, “He wants to go.”)
Emma
Adopted September 26, 2016 from Muttville
Many road trips to Fort Bragg, CA
Died May 11, 2019, euthanized at home with her brother George worriedly watching over her after a decline of a month or so.
Maggie
Adopted June 22, 2017 from Muttville as a hospice doggie.
Died August 16, 2017, euthanized after eating a plush toy that got lodged in her intestines, her health being too delicate to survive surgery.
For this reason I do not give plush toys to my dogs.
Anna Belle
Adopted June 16, 2019 from Muttville
Road trips to Desert Hot Springs, Mendocino and Tucson
Died July 3, 2021, euthanized at Creature Comfort on the floor of the waiting room, surrounded by friends, after prednisone stopped working, a few months after being diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.
Koda
Found as a stray November 17, 2019 in Contra Costa County.
I, working with Golden Gate Lab Retriever Rescue (GGLRR), pulled him from the Martinez shelter December 7, 2019.
I fostered him December 7, 2019 to June 16, 2020.
Road Trip to Desert Hot Springs.
Adopted him from GGLRR June 16, 2020.
Died July 18, 2020, in his sleep, found dead in his bed in the back yard cottage at 930am, after a number of months struggling with cancer.
13 or 14 yrs old
Marmaduke
Found as a stray in Sacramento.
Fostered and rehabilitated by The Dog Angel “D” in Sacramento.
Adopted September x, 2021 from the Front Street Animal Shelter, Sacramento.
Road Trips to Mendocino and Tucson.
Died November 17, 2022, euthanized at Creature Comfort, with me and his foster mom present, one of my hardest decisions like with Nova and George, after a few months of not eating and dementia (heart breaking and so very confusing when there is still some life force left but the quality of life is horrible). My struggles with him started me thinking about starting this business to help others.
I remain grateful to The Dog Angel “D” for everything she did for Marmaduke. And me.
