Guidelines

Updated March 27, 2024

It’s all very straight-forward with Earth, human and dog health, safety, and respect in mind.

Your Dog Is a Sentient Being

Cherish, honor and respect your dog as the unique, sentient being that s/he is. There is no other exactly the same in the whole universe.

Cats – We are the Peaceable Kingdom here

ID’s for Re-uniting – Tag, License, Chip

  • have a dog tag with its name and your contact information that the dog will always wear in my care (on collar, harness, sweater, etc.) (God forbid, to help with reuniting.)
  • be licensed in the city where you live, with a dog tag (God forbid, to help with reuniting.)
  • be micro-chipped (you’ll provide the chip number on the “Pet Sitting Service Contract” paperwork)

Vaccinations, Fleas, Ticks

  • be current on all vaccinations
  • proof of these vaccinations, either a paper or electronic copy
      • rabies
      • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvo)
      • Bordetella
  • be on flea and tick prevention – I imagine that the feral cats, squirrels, raccoons, opossum, etc., that roam my deck, yards, and the neighborhood have fleas

Hygiene – Body and Bedding
It’s important for all concerned that your dog and their bedding be clean when they arrive. No old scabs, poop-dingle-berries, food encrusted noses and faces, thick brown wax in ears, eye boogers, yucky scabs, etc. They don’t have to be pretty or brushed, just clean!

Temperment

  • Must be cat-friendly or cat-indifferent – please see this page: https://sugarfacedogs.com/my-cat-your-dog-must-be-cat-friendly-or-cat-indifferent/
  • Must be spayed or neutered
  • Must be non-aggressive
  • Must have no history of biting, injuring or killing
  • Must not be an incessant barker
  • Must not be an incessant puller on a leash
  • Must tolerate being touched by me for bathing (poop on feet or rear end, etc), diapering, harnessing, leashing, etc.

Incontinence, Marking, Not House Trained, Losing House Training or A Really Tiny Bladder (Tiny Dog)

  • If your pooch is incontinent, marks (or might mark) in the house, is not house trained or is loosing her house training then diapers, pooch pants, belly bands, etc, are required.
  • It would be nice if the supplies were washable. I may request a modest “Laundry Fee” if there’s a lot of washing.
  • Please reach out if you need help shopping for the supplies. Clients have recommended the washable diaper brand called WeGreeCo.
  • I have WeGreeCo brand diapers on hand, 3 per size, both male and female styles, in medium, large and extra large sizes (they run small).
  • I have washable pee pads for the floor.
